Udupi: State Level Kabaddi Meet Spreads Sports Vibrancy

Udupi, Dec 15: The State level floodlit Kabaddi meet for men and women was organized by SK Sports Club at Udyavar here, recently.
Speaking on the occassion, Sudarshan, president of Kabaddi Association of Udupi district mentioned that it is a matter of pride for India and the district since Mamatha Poojari played a major role in helping India win a gold medal and also won the yellow metal in the finals of Asian Games. He also regretted that kabaddi is losing importance and becoming less popular. It is such performances that will bring the lost glory of kabaddi sports back, he said.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district Fisheries Federation president Yashpal Suvarna, entrepreneur Vilas Nayak and KPCC member Manjunath Udyavar too spoke on the occasion.
Chief guests, Manvi Agarwal, who is very famous among kannada audience due to her reality show " Pyate Hudigiru Halli Life" and " Halli Hyda Pyatege Banda" and Likith Shetty, budding actor were felicitated.
S K Sports president, entrepreneur and social worker Mahesh and secretary and Kabaddi player Raghavendra gave away donations to Asare, local residential centre for mentally challenged and elderly at the programme.
At the valedictory ceremony Mega Mart marketing head Manu and Jagdish of Dakshina Kannada Rural Super Market Group Pvt Ltd were present.
Prize Winners
In the female category, Alva's team B bagged the first prize while Alva's team A bagged second.
Poornima, Vanita and Sumita bagged best catcher, best rider and alrounder prizes, respectively.
In the male category, Muniyalu Friends won the first prize while Veeramaruti team won the second prize.
Deepak (Muniyalu), Amit (Veeramaruti) and Gaurav Shetty (Muniyalu) won the best catcher, best rider and alrounder prizes, respectively.
The tournament comprised 12 teams among males and 6 teams among female category. The first place among the male category carried a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and the female category Rs 15,000. The second place winners took away a cash prize of Rs 9,000 apart from other individual prizes.
Sports lovers in thousands flocked the venue. Display of fireworks was also held. The programme was compered by Errol Gonsalves and Vinay Udyavar.
