Mangalore: Irregularities at ESI Hospital Trigger Protests in City

Mangalore, Dec 15: The Akhila Bharatha Karmika Sangha has alleged that ESI hospital which was supposed to be a hope of labourers in Dakshina Kannada has turned to be a death zone.
The members of Sangha on Wednesday December 15 went on an indefinite hunger strike in front of the ESI hospital. Prior to that they took out a protest rally from Kottara Chowki which reached ESI hospital by passing through Urva Store, Lalbaug, PVS, Bunts Hostel, Mallikatta and Shivbaug.
The protestors alleged that workers who admit in ESI hospital are treated without any care. The staffs are making the patients wander for no reasons. There are also vacancies which are not filled causing risk to the life of poor patients, they alleged.
The protestors’ demands included to keep dispensary open on Sundays and to provide 24 hours of service, to recruit permanent doctors and to start a sub-regional office in Mangalore, to recruit well experienced doctors in ESI hospital and to avail two ambulances which is already been seized due to negligence of the concerned officers among others.
The protestors also warned that the intensity of protest may increase if their demands are not met immediately.
