Mangalore: Young Leader Shows the 'Way' to Senior Politicians
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore
Mangalore, Dec 21: In politics, every individual is always on the look out for opportunities to go up the ladder, and more so during the elections, to grab a ticket at any cost! Be it a small gram panchayat election, or the mega parliamentary election, the conspiracies being hatched, the dramas being enacted, and the manipulations and manoeuvres being worked out, by various candidates within the party, many a time, do not come into the open. “It is very easy to secure votes from the general public, but difficult to get support from within the party colleagues,” a senior leader of national party was heard saying recently, while trying to convince the party leadership to give him a ticket.

In the coastal districts of Karnataka, a young and emerging political leader has shown a rare gesture here during the zilla panchayat (ZP) election-related ticket distribution process.
A strong ticket aspirant from any of the constituencies spread over Bantwal region, Dolphy D’souza, was eying for a ZP ticket to make his political entry into the higher realms of the electoral system. Without begging anyone or lobbying for anything, he was silently looking to secure a ticket for himself. He was indeed successful in getting the B form (official letter from the party leadership to contest the election with the party symbol). On the other hand, a slew of political dramas were unfolding elsewhere in Dakshina Kannada district, enacted by candidates eager to secure a ticket for themelves by hook or crook.
It may be recalled that Dolphy Dsouza was instrumental in ensuring the august presence of President of India, Pratibha Patil, at the world Konkani convention held in Mangalore recently. He was seen on the dais along with the President, even as many top leaders of the country and the state alike failed to get an opportunity to brush shoulders with the President.
The issuance of B form to Dolphy D'souza for Neermarga ZP constituency by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, G Parameshwara, indeed came as a surprise to everyone including DK Congress chief, Ramanath Rai. When Rai was informed by the top leadership about the ticket allocation to Dolphy D’souza, the political scenario started changing, as it came as a huge disappointment for other ticket aspirants from the same constituency.
Later, when Dolphy realized that a number of other senior and capable candidates from the locality were aspiring for the ticket from same constituency, Dolphy voluntarily surrendered his B form, and withdrew his candidature. This gesture of Dolphy D’souza has come as a major surprise for the Congress leaders from the district, and indeed put to shame some top senior leaders of the districts, who are ready to do anything to get power.
Dolphy D’souza, a young and dynamic leader, has now assured his support to the candidature of Melvyn D'souza, who has been fielded from Neermarga constituency. Through his act, D’souza has set an example for others to emulate, by making it abundantly clear that that securing of B form should never be the sole objective of politicians.
Many leaders from the state Congress have profusely appreciated the initiative undertaken by the young leader, and have been advising young aspirants from within the party to adopt Dolphy as a role model and follow in his footsteps.
