Udupi, Jan 31: Samskriti Vishwa Prathishtana, Udupi, conferred the 'Vishwaprabha' award- 2022 to well-known film director Girish Kasaravalli on Monday, January 31, at Muddana Mantapa in MGM College in Udupi.
The award is instituted by Udupi Vishwanath Shenoy and Prabhavathi Shenoy to felicitate artistes in recognition of their contributions to the promotion of Kannada and culture. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lac and a citation.
After receiving the award Girish Kasaravalli said that, "Art and business should be balanced. Balance in cinema is utmost important. I have produced 15 cinemas and four documentaries in 45 years of my career. My cinemas are not profit making, rather, it gives a message to society".
Good cinemas should create healthy discussion not arguments in society, because it will enhance one's knowledge.
A cinema, drama or a story should leave us to think. When thinking about an ongoing phenomenon, argument is not necessary, but understanding is important. Art and interaction (debate) are more important than religion and politics. Cinema is an art as well as a business too.
Argument is not an answer for any social distraction. Human are not basically (originally) cruel, but the circumstances make them cruel. That circumstance is the core of cruelty. A debate should be conducted on that matter.
I got inspired by nature and that is why my cinemas are revolving around nature. Most of the cinemas are produced in Malnadu, Dakshina Kannada and Coastal areas. I did not go to any foreign countries for shooting purposes because we are blessed with beautiful nature here. My core subject in my film is ‘othering’.
"I am a medicine, science student, not art. But my interest leaned towards art and literature. I feel Udupi is my hometown and I feel happy to be receiving award here", he added
Dr M Mohan Alva, president, Alva’s Education Foundation addressing the occasion said, "Art and Culture is necessary for our life. If we dedicate ourselves to Art, it will help us to grow up".
