Two Customs officials held for demanding bribe


New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday said that they have arrested a Superintendent of Customs from Motihari in Bihar and a Computer Operator for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from a man.

A CBI official said that a case was registered against Deepak Kumar Chaudhary, the superintendent of Customs and the computer operator Anand Kumar on the complaint of a man who alleged that the duo were demanding a bribe of Rs 90,000 which was 30 per cent of seizure value of goods (Rs 3 lakh) from him.

The goods were seized on December 31, 2021 by Motihari Customs Office.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.

On Wednesday, the searches were conducted at the premises of accused which led to recovery of some incriminating documents.

The arrested individuals were presented before the court in Patna, and were remanded to judicial custody.
