Puttur: Periyashanti - Mini Bus Rolls Down Culvert Killing Two on Spot

Puttur, Dec 24: In a gruesome incident, a mini bus on its way from Bangalore to Mangalore with as many as 30 passengers rolled down a culvert to a gorge about 25 feet near Periyashanti, about 23 kms away from Uppinangady here killing two on the spot, critically injuring two with others sustaining minor injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Gururaj from Mangalore and Ravi from Chennapatna while Sadashiva and Sandeep are critically injured. It is said that the accident that occurred around 6.00 am was the result of the driver losing the control of the vehicle. Lohit, Bharatksha, Dhyan, Ramu and Uday Kumar are among the injured. In a miraculous way Gopinath from Puttur and Shiva from Kanhangad remained unscathed.
As it is Christmas, these passengers were on the way to Mangalore in a private mini bus of Varun Travels of Beltangady following shortage of buses from Bangalore.
Fire personnel were summoned to the spot and helped in rescue operations. Puttur traffic police station have lodged a complaint.
It can be recalled here that the accident occurred at the same spot where in earlier a gas tanker had leaked and caught fire.
