Mangalore, Dec 25: Fatima Retreat House celebrated Christmas in a special way by organizing a programme for 250 orphans from 6 different orphanages in the city here on Saturday December 25.
The orphanges that participated were Bhagini Samaj, Infant Mary’s, Bal Yesu Nilaya, St Antony’s, Zeenath Baksh and Prashanth Nivas.
The objective of the programme was to help raise awareness that one should reach out to the less fortunate, and accordingly, a programme for these who are often forgotten and ignored was organized. The event indeed brought some delightful moments in their lives and gave them the love and support they need.
The programme began with an invocation sung by the group from Bal Yesu Nilaya Bondel, followed by lighting of the lamp by the director of Fatima Retreat House, Fr Ronnie Prabhu, along with one representative from each orphanage. Words of welcome were then extended to all present by Fr Lawrence Castelino. Lilly Miranda compered the programme.
Games and sports conducted age-wise had the children fully absorbed in the energetic and enjoyable atmosphere. Many enthusiastic volunteers from 'Jesus Youth' lent their services to get the children organized. ‘Kuswar’ distributed to the children brought happy smiles to their faces.
The lively entertainment programme consisted of a variety of songs, dances and skits by each of the different orphanage groups enabling the children to display their talents.
The appearance of Santa Claus added to the merriment. He presented each child with a gift and a packet of chocolates.
The programme was a chance to serve mankind and many generous donors contributed towards the expenses.
What was striking about Christmas with orphans was that irrespective of caste, and creed, 250 orphans had a chance to come together and enjoy a time of fun and laughter and listen to a message of hope.
