CM holds review meeting on reopening of schools

Bengaluru, Feb 11: With high schools and colleges scheduled to reopen from Monday throughout the State after 3-day holiday over the hijab/saffron shawl row in coastal Karnataka and other districts, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a video conference review meeting with all deputy commissioners, superintendents of police of districts as well as officials of the Education Department to ensure that no law and order problems take place.

The meeting attended by Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh, Higher Education Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Law Minister JC Madhuswamy, Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar and other senior officials directed the DCs and SPs in all sensitive districts to make spot inspections of educational institutions to take suitable precautionary measures and maintain peace.

The Chief Minister directed all officials to ensure that there should be constant dialogue with headmasters, principals, parents and teaching staff as well as the administrative bodies of the educational institutions and the officials of the Education Department.

The meeting asked the district administration to take the prominent leaders of the districts and elected representatives into confidence and also ensure that stringent action was taken against all trouble-makers and miscreants fomenting trouble.

It also asked the district DCs and SPs to visit the educational institutions and strictly abide by the interim orders issued by the State High Court and not to be lenient against trouble-makers.

The meeting also asked the district administration to ensure that communal flare-ups and disturbances were sternly dealt with and also to hold dialogue with religious and local political leaders, besides taking steps against spreading rumours and false information through the mass media or social media.
