Mangalore, Jan 3: Renowned body builder and wrestler, former district president of HMS and president of Dakshina Kannada District Transporters Association, Sanjeeva Shetty (78), breathed his last after a brief illness at his residence in Mannagudda in the city on Sunday January 2.

He is survived by four sons and three daughters.

Shetty, who was the founder secretary of Dakshina Kannada District Wrestling Federation, had played a stellar role in popularising wrestling in the district by organizing state and national level wrestling competitions. He had provided an able leadership to ‘Tulu Kesari’ and ‘Tulu Kumar’ wrestling competitions in the district for 35 years. In the recent past too, he continued to provide guidance and advice to wrestling tournaments in the district.

He had served as the district president of Truck Owners Association for a number of years. MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, former MP, Vinayakumar Sorake, former MLA, Vijayakumar Shetty, former wrestler, Sundar Karkara, honorary president of the district wrestling federation, Sureshchandra Shetty, and many others have mourned the death of Sanjeeva Shetty.
