Bengaluru: Religious leaders at interfaith meet urge students to follow HC order

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Feb 20: Religious leaders of different communities on Saturday February 20 urged students to give up wearing shawls and Hijabs and honour the interim order issued by the Karnataka high court. They said that students should attend schools and colleges with the sole objective of attaining good education and not be distracted by anything else.

Religious leaders of Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities held a meeting on Saturday in the wake of the ongoing Hijab-Saffron shawl controversy.

Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana of Murugha Math, Chitradurga, Sri Basavamurthy Madara Chennaiah Swamiji of Madara Chennaiah Peetha, Sri Shantaveera Swamiji of Kuntichiga Maha Samsthana, Maulana Maqsood Imran Saheb of Jamia Masjid, Bengaluru and Maulana Sulaiman Khan of All India Mili Council were present.

Addressing the scribes, Sulaiman Khan said, "We should follow our religion at home, be Kannadiga in state and Indian in country. The interim order of the court should thus be understood clearly and followed.

"Every individual has the right to education as well as to practice their religion. However, right now the verdict of the court should be followed. No one should say that Hijab is more important than education. As the situation is serious, government should think of introducing online education," he said.

Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana said, "Hijab issue is created by human beings. Even in this critical situation, everyone should strive to maintain social harmony. We can only suggest and cannot form laws. So abide by the verdict of court and maintain peace."

Appreciate that they are sharing a stage and intend to be a voice of reason. Let us hope that this will serve as catalyst to return to a stage where we were comfortable since many years viz., defect tolerant system similar to human biology...accommodate and live together for each other by respecting each other. I thought that's what is the human belief system in simple words as recently graduated MBBS also understands.

I believe there is a some total MISUNDERSTANDING on the subject issue. 1. Wearing Hijab in the college/school compound WHERE IS THE PROBLEM there ? 2. Are they Insisting Hijab to wear inside the class than must be OPPOSED. Now where the is the problem my dear Principals or Headmasters in ITEM # 1 or 2 ?? It is true one should honour High Court Interim order. But does High Court talks about Item No. 1 or 2 ?. As far as I know, the past practice was wearing hijab till the institution's compound and not in the class. Now which aspect High Court interim order dictates...is it till the collage compound or inside the compound or inside the class ? Is any some one good specialist provides some clarification here to set record straight and to move with the social harmony between us all.

Please the Court Order Para No : 11 it clearly says : We make it clear that this order is confined to such of the institutions wherein the College Development Committees have prescribed the students dress code/uniform. It is crystal clear that in those institutions where CDC is not there, and even if CDC is there and they have not prescribed any uniform, court order does not applies. Now if after court order or based on court order govt has issued any circular that is null and void.

You take care of your religion as your name suggests if you are honest to your religion. Why are you advocating other religion and advising others about it?. Do you have anything to say about demolition of prayer centre while there was stay by court orders?. And about fabricated conversion stories by the minister and later proved wrong by the Tahsildar who was transferred for doing his duty diligently and honestly?.
