Mangaluru: Man stabs police constable at Central Market, escapes

Mangaluru, Feb 21: A policeman was injured in an attack by a man at Dubai market in Central Market area here on Monday February 21.

It is said that the man, a native of Kasargod, came to Dubai market to sell an expensive watch.

The shopkeepers grew suspicious that the watch might have been a stolen one, and alerted the police.

The police visited the spot immediately. When the police tried to catch hold of him, he allegedly stabbed one of the policemen with a sharp weapon and escaped from the spot.

The injured policeman, Vinod, is a head constable of north police station. He has been admitted to a private hospital with stab injuries, and is out of danger.

The police commissioner said that hunt is on for the accused, who is yet to be identified. The commissioner also said that in some social media posts, the incident has been given a communal colour which is false.
