Udupi: Hijab issue - Mob attacks restaurant of petitioner's father, assaults brother

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Feb 22: A mob of right-wing workers allegedly attacked a restaurant belonging to the father of one of the petitioners in the Hijab case. The incident occured at Malpe late night on Monday February 21.

It is learnt that a mob of around 50 people allegedly pelted stones at 'Bismillah Hotel' belonging to Hyder Ali, father of Shifa, one of the college girls who approached the high court for not being allowed to wear HIjab in her classroom.

Saif

Hyder's son Saif (20) was assaulted by one of the attackers after a heated argument erupted between them.

The attackers damaged the window panes of the restaurant.

The police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob.

Tweeting about the incident, Shifa tagged Udupi police and said, "My brother was brutally attacked by a mob. Just because I continue to stand for My #Hijab which is MY RIGHT. Our property were ruined as well. Why?? Can't I demand my right? Who will be their next victim? I demand action to be taken against the Sangh Parivar goons (sic)."

The Campus Front of India meanwhile claimed that the attack was carried out by "a mob of 150 Sangh Parivar goons" and urged police to take stringent action against the attackers.

Shifa's brother Saif is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Udupi.

Malpe police have registered a case.

Very strict action is a must from police department and conscious politicians. If this type of incidents are tolerated mobs may enter houses and exhibit more blatant attitude. Arrest the responsible, name and shame them. In the name of religion one can not disturb public order.

One observation in todays social media world is; when small isolated incident blows out of proportion and becomes world news, violence also follows and repeats in multiple places. Udupi Hijab incident also happened to be followed a similar pattern. At the initial stage it was a failure of the local administration to sort things out amicably.

The politicians create mindless mobs. By doing so, the politicians will ensure that India remains a fifth word country! When China is shooting towards the number one spot in the world, India will be kept at the 100th spot by the politicians. Why are these politicians frightened by the girls wearing hijab?
