Beltangady, Feb 24: In a strange incident which has happened in Tekkar village in the taluk, a family belonging to scheduled caste has shifted its residence into a multi-storied building being constructed by the local panchayat. This family has alleged that the panchayat has been constructing the said building illegally by use of force in a plot which belongs to it. The family members have now knocked at the doors of the court for justice.

Yamuna, wife of the late Nemu Naik, resident of Bajara House in Tekkar village has also filed a police complaint. "My family has 69 cents of land in survey No. 103/1A2 in Tekkar village. Six months back, panchayat officials and people's representatives illegally forced themselves into my land, destroyed the agricultural crops and started building construction. "When I questioned them, they abused me by naming the caste to which I belong, and warned that I will be driven out of the village if I questioned them. They also posed death threats," she stated in the complaint.

Backed by documents to prove that this land has been in her possession for the last 40 years, she has filed suit in the court of the Puttur assistant commissioner. The court has issued interim order to maintain status quo. The court has ordered the gram panchayat to produce the original documents to Beltangady taluk magistrate. Yamuna and her family have now claimed that the building under construction there belongs to them. The family has been living there from the last some days. Yamuna says that the 20 cents plot in which Tekkar gram panchayat office building was proposed to come up is located about one km away from this site, in survey No. 64/1. The panchayat has filed a complaint to the police accusing the family of trespassing its property and living there. On Tuesday, police deputy superintendent, Gana P Kumar, summoned both sides and held discussions. He has ordered the land to be surveyed through the government surveyors.
