War woes: Medical student from Udupi district in Ukraine bunker

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Feb 24: Rohan Dhananjay Bagli, a native of the district, has been reported stranded in Ukraine embroiled in a war with the offending Russia. The report closely follows the stranding of two students from Mangaluru in a similar situation.

Rohan is the Son of Dr Dhananjay Bagli, a senior scientist at the Brahmavar Agricultural Science Centre.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, February 24, Dr Dhananjay said, "My son is studying fifth year MBBS studies in Kharkiv National Medical University in Ukraine. We had been in touch with our son even yesterday. When we shared the news on the Russia - Ukraine war appearing in the media, he denied any risks and said the situation was peaceful there. But today, Rohan seemed scared a bit as the bombings and movement of war flights are being reported."

Dr Bagli also disclosed that Rahul along with others have been evacuated to safe bunkers today. "I request the government to develop bilateral relations immediately with Ukraine and airlift the stranded students as soon as possible as their parents and relatives in India are worried", he requested.

Meanwhile the district administration has opened a special helpline number for helping stranded individuals of Udupi district. The concerned have been requested to contact the control room on 1077.

According to some estimates, there are more than 24000 foreign medical graduates not been able to get registered with MCI. Every year, huge number of candidates fail in FMGE. Fmge exam is considered a tough nut to crack.

These students should know the fact that their medical degrees are not recognised in india! To practice, they have to again clear a tough exam which very few are able to pass!

RR, again it’s a question of fees, not the ability of student . The student who go to E Europe are capable of qualifying for a seat in India but are hindered by the lack of available low cost seats. So once they return they easily clear the screening test conducted by MCI. Please note that the medical college facilities available in Ukraine are world class and comparable to those available in some colleges in India. I personally know of a student in my neighborhood who went to Ukraine , due to lack of funds to get admission in a Mangalore college.

The colleges in these countries admit TDH provided you can pay the fees hence so many students opt to go there, it's not like India!

The cost of medical education is very high in India. One has to pay crores of rupees to get a seat for post graduation. Last year many medical colleges in Karnataka were raided to unearth the black money. Unless the no. of seats and medical colleges are increased (the seats are controlled by vested interests) students will go to East European countries for their studies.

Did the father ask to airlift his son for free? why so much negativity? what fun do you get by posting such things. Do you know the fees to study medicine in India? At the least when you talk negative about something, try to learn about it first. There are many reasons why people move out to study/migrate. It doesn't make them less of an Indian.
