Mangaluru, Feb 25: The Hijab-shawl controversy, which has spread throughout the state, erupted in Bharath PU College here in Ullal on Friday February 25.

The college administration committee asked Muslim girl students not to wear Hijab as per orders of education department. Students opposed the committee’s orders and said they will follow after the court final verdict. The committee even asked the women lecturers of the college to remove Hijabs.

Students were adamant that they will wear Hijabs. They protested and asked to give them TC (Transfer Certificate) or announce holidays for the college till the verdict is out.

Ullal police rushed to the spot and an argument ensued between the police and the students. MLA U T Khader also visited the college and held a meeting with the college administrative committee.

In order to prevent any untoward incident, holidays were declared for the college till verdict on the matter is pronounced by the court.
