Christ University VC conferred Honorary Colonel Commandant rank

Bengaluru, Feb 25: Dr Fr Abraham Vettiyankal Mani, Vice Chancellor of Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, has been conferred the honorary rank of Colonel Commandant in the National Cadet Corps by the Ministry of Defence.

The pipping was done by Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, AVSM, VSM, Director General of NCC at a ceremony on Thursday, February 25 at the Parachute Regiment Training Centre, Bangalore.

The Christ (Deemed to be University), NCC is one of the most feted from the Karnataka- Goa NCC Directorate for its achievements in NCC.

This recognition is based on the contributions of the university to NCC. Christ University has had a special place with its NCC cadets joining armed and paramilitary forces in significant numbers thanks to the infrastructure and facilities provided for NCC training in its campuses and it being the first to introduce NCC as a credit course in the country.

This privilege has been accorded to only three vice chancellors from Karnataka and 11 in India in 2022 by the Ministry of Defence.
