Kundapur, Feb 26: A youth who was fixing flexes announcing welcome to the people visiting Sowkoor for the annual festival of the temple there, died after a flex accidentally came in contact with power lines. In this accident, another suffered serious injuries. He has been admitted into hospital for treatment.

This tragic incident happened near Sowkoor temple in the taluk. The youngster who lost his life in this manner was Prashant Devadiga (26), son of Mohan Devadiga from Sowkoor. A man identified as Sridhar Devadiga (45) who suffered grave injuries, has been admitted into a private hospital in Manipal.

The annual festival of Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple in Sowkoor is scheduled to be held on Saturday February 26. Devadiga was hanging a banner on Friday February 25 night extending a warm welcome to the devotees participating in the festival, when this tragedy happened all of a sudden. A power line attached to the transformer passes very close to the spot where the flex was being tied. Devadiga did not notice the power line and raised the flex in order to hang it when he came in contact with the power line. Immediately efforts were made to save both of them, but Prashant lost his life. Sridhar was rushed to Manipal with serious injuries.

The house of Prashant, which was in a festive mood, has plunged into an abyss of sorrow. The family members are inconsolable. Prashant, who worked in a society in the village, used to take immense interest in social and religious activities in his village and the neighbouring ones. His sudden death has become very hard for the family and friends to digest.
