India abstains on resolution condemning Russian invasion of Ukraine

By Arul Louis

United Nations, Feb 26 (IANS): India, along with China and the United Arab Emirates, has abstained on a Security Council resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The resolution proposed by the US and Albania with the backing of nearly 60 countries received 11 votes in favour, giving it a majority in the 15-member Council, but was nullified by the Russian veto on Friday evening.

The resolution sought to declare that Russia has committed acts of aggression against Ukraine.and the situation is a breach of international peace and security.

It would also have demanded that Russia immediately cease its use of force against Ukraine and completely withdraw its military forces from within Ukraine's internationally recognised borders.

Explaining the abstention, India's Permanent Representative, T.S. Tirumurti said, "It is a matter of regret that the path of diplomacy was given up. We must return to it."

"Dialogue is the only answer to the settling of differences and disputes, however daunting that may appear at this moment," he added.

Without naming Russia, Tirumurti, however, said, "India is deeply disturbed by the recent turn of developments in Ukraine."

But taking a neutral stance, he added, "We urge that all efforts are made for the immediate cessation of violence and hostilities."

India's abstention followed a call from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

But US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken called India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar to press the case for voting for the resolution.

India's abstention is a bump in the road to closer relations with the US and the West.

US Permanent Representative, Linda Thomas Greenfield made the voting on the resolution a litmus test for how countries stand with the US.

"There is no middle ground," she said before the vote.

And after the vote, she added, "This vote showed which countries truly believe in supporting the core principles of the UN and which ones deployed them as convenient catchphrases. This vote showed which Security Council members support the UN Charter and which ones do not."

Indian government told to vacate the place two weeks back. One of the students gave interview and told she don't want to come back as her university is taking care of them. Now suddenly same student told she is not getting any help from Indian embassy. Finally blame government. This has become a trend now.

Good decision .. But we might have to face Americas wrath.. But the Wests impotency is exposed .. Everyone pitched Ukraine and once the attack by Russia is underway no one dared to stop except sanctions on Russia . Its interesting to note that the same ukraine ,voted against India in the nuclear tests ,and in kashmir issues in the past .. Russia has stood by India in the past ,even when America displayed its muscles in the pacific/Indian ocean during the creation of Bangladesh .. Interesting to note that Even UAE ,China too abstained from voting ..Maybe its a new beginning/reset oppurtunity for India china ..If that happens ,it will be better for India .. The west and America will anyway be in doldrums soon due to over Materialism and Money fatigue .According to me Its going to be India's age for the next 20 to 30 years. When its dependence is decoupled from external imoprts mainly oil and gas.. ..Its all India shines.

Good stance taken by India by staying with now non entity Non Aligned stance of Nehru. Russia always had stood with us during wars especially it stopped UN resolution to stop 1971 war. Until 17 days when Pakistan surrendered they countered battle ships of US with theirs. India is always indebted to an ally who stayed with us in the times of crisises compared to US always deserts its allies. It would have been better if we had voted against the resolution as Ukraine is money laundering state of Bidens and Clintons, for this reason they want war, Another report states Biolabs which can be used to cause future pandemics were destroyed by Russia as it doesn't support One World Order by surrendering their sovereignty to the elites. Trump and Putin only are stumbling blocks for the evil globalists who want to enslave all.

Right decision taken in national interest. Russia has been our trusted ally from decades. This war will end in days. Relations do not end so soon. West has shown blatant impotence. Loss of lives are tragic but inevitable like what happened in Afghanistan, We have to safeguard our position as we need Russian support for years to come.
