Mangaluru: Foundation stone laid for Konkani Bhavan at Urwa Store

Mangaluru, Feb 26: The foundation stone for Konkani Bhavan was laid by district in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar at Urwa Store on Saturday, February 26.

Sunil Kumar said, “The Konkani academy has been active in the three districts, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Karwar by organizing several activities. In this region, we have several people who speak

Konkani. It is a dream come true to have their own building here in Urwa Store. I will work on bringing more funds for the overall development of the Konkani academy.”

 

It was a long-pending demand for 27 years of having its own administrative building for the Konkani academy. A 35 cent land and Rs 3 crore has been sanctioned for the project.

Academy member Canute Jeevan Pinto welcomed the gathering, member Naveen Nayak rendered the vote of thanks and member Sanoor Narasimha Kamath compered the event.

    Our community does not cry that we are minority, we the 2 percent of the Indian population have already built our own bhavans in mangalore with funding from our community.

    Jossy , everyone will bless the Konkani community, they have provided the best education and health care to the people. Our district is 100 percent literate because of our community not because of any political initiatives.
