Mangaluru: Charody Mesta community members visit World Konkani Centre

Mangaluru, Feb 27: The leaders and members of the Konkani Speaking Charody Mesta community visited the World Konkani Centre on Sunday, February 27 to acquaint themselves with the activities and programmes of the centre led by Mahesh Nayak, secretary, Charody Abhyudaya Sangha, Neereshwalya.

Nandagopal Shenoy, president,  B R Bhat,  treasurer, Giridhar Kamath, secretary, Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Prathistan, World Konkani Centre received the dignitaries of the Charody Mesta Community.

Mahesh Nayak introduced the community leaders and apprised the World Konkani Centre about the Charody Mesta Community spread across Coastal Karnataka. He explained that though they were a very miniscule community of about 2000 households, the current generation was taking up educational opportunities such as engineering and MBBS. He thanked the World Konkani Centre for the Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Programme due to which several students of the community, he said, could aspire for higher studies.

The members honoured Nandagopal Shenoy, president, with a shawl on behalf of the community.

Nandagopal Shenoy,  president, KBASP, expressed his gratitude to the community leaders for paying their visit. He invited them to make full use of the programmes by the World Konkani Centre. Reiterating the vision of the founder, Late Basti Vaman Shenoy in bringing all Konkani speaking people under one umbrella, he called upon the community members to preserve the Konkani Language.

Giridhar Kamath, secretary, KBASP, apprised the gathering about the skill development opportunities for the youth.

Gurudath Bantwalkar, CEO, World Konkani Centre, explained the gathering about the community development initiatives of the centre and invited the Charody Mesta community to take initiatives in this regard.

Mahesh Nayak, secretary, Charody Abhyuday Sangha proposed a vote of thanks.

B Madhukar Nayak, president, Charody Abhyuday Sangha, H Ashok Nayak, managing trustee, Shri Somanath Temple, Neereshwalya, N Shivaprasad Nayak, trustee, Shri Somanath Temple and several other leaders and members paid the visit.
