Brahmavar, Feb 28: In an incident that occurred on the night of February 26 at Sri Durgaparameshwari temple located at Mandarti of Heggunje village in the taluk, three thieves tried to break open the offertory box in a bid to steal the cash inside but escaped as they saw the security guard coming their way.
As per the details Kiran security guard of the temple noticed that the front door of temple is closed. Generally this is kept open by the priest when he leaves the temple at around 8 pm. When the guard went inside and checked, he saw three strangers had broken the brick wall to which the offertory box is attached and were filling the gunny bag with the cash from the offertory box. As soon as they saw the guard all the three left the hammer, shovel and iron rod they used to break open the wall and escaped from the spot.
The guard called Dhananjay Shetty, hereditary trustee of the temple, who immediately visited the spot and found that currency notes were spilled all over the floor.
A case in this connection is registered in Brahmavar police station.
