Jayasuriya Unsold, Little Known Christian Goes for $900,000


Bangalore, Jan 9 (IANS) Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya went unsold while little known Australian Daniel Christian went for a whopping $900,000 to Deccan Chargers on the second day of the players' auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) season four here Saturday.

Jayasuriya, who was bought by Mumbai Indians in the first edition for $975,000, joined legends like Brian Lara and Sourav Ganguly in the unsold category.

On a day when several players went unsold, Christian's $900,000 value was the highlight of the morning. Christian, who has played just three Twenty20 Internationals, had a base price of just $50,000 and both Chargers and Kochi were involved in fierce bidding for the South Australian all-rounder.

Delhi Daredevils also joined the fray as the player's value rose to $850,000, but Chargers lapped him up for $900,000.
