Will develop Indian road network at par with America by 2024: Gadkari

Belagavi, (Karnataka) Feb 28 (IANS): Union Minister for Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that he has a goal of establishing a road network in India at par with America by 2024.

Speaking here after laying the foundation stones for five national highways, he stated that every development activity depended on road connectivity and realizing this, the government is committed to strengthening the road network in the country.

Many projects in this region will be included in Bharat Mala-2. There was a proposal for a flyover in Belagavi, however, it is not possible due to local issues but the project could be taken up if cooperation is extended at the local level, he said.

The MPs and MLAs from this region have sent proposals for the development and upgradation of various projects and approval will be given immediately to take up this work. The 9,000 km long greenfield and highway corridor project is being implemented at a cost of more than Rs 3,000 lakh crore in the country, he informed.

This includes the Bengaluru-Chennai corridor. Vehicles could be driven at a speed of 120 kms per hour between Mumbai and New Delhi and the travel time will be 12 hours, he said.

In order to bring down the pressure on Bengaluru city due to urbanisation, the land beside the highways could be acquired to establish smart villages and industries. If the state government formulates a policy in this regard, the central government will extend all support. If the state comes forward with land acquisition, projects which will help in the development of tourism and industries will be taken up, he added.

Under the Bharat Mala-2 project, it is planned to reduce a 100- kilometre distance between Bengaluru and Pune. It is going to be linked to the Bengaluru and Chennai highway. The five national highways, for which the foundation stones have been laid, will improve the road connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra, he explained.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Mining Pralhad Joshi said that till 2014 a 91,000-kilometre national highways network was built. After Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister, in seven years 1.40 lakh kms of national highways have been built, which is an indicator of big change.

If the road infrastructure is being improved in a short span, it is being done under PM Modi and Union Minister Gadkari. Most importantly, Gadkari has sanctioned most of projects for the state. Rs 42,000 crore in grants has been given to the state for the development of roads, he claimed.

I have travelled in Africa, South America and parts of south east Asia back in 2000. Their roads were excellent. We were behind. Still, it is a good work done by Mr. gadkari.

Joke time Once modi goes to US... visits trump''s private house and he was surprised to see the luxury and lavishness asked him how did you earn so much money ...so trump points at the window says to modi "do you see that bridge .? modi says "yes" ..so trump says" 10%" then next time trump comes to india and goes to modi's private house and he was surprised to see more than 10 times luxury than what he has in the US. So he asks him "man you tell me india is a poor country but how did you earn so much??? So modi also points at the window and he asks trump " do you see that bridge? so trump says " NO" SO MODI SAYS "100%"

GoodPlans... For these to see the light of the day the Govt must .. 1) Revamp NHAI. 2) Transfer the Officials regularly. ( they strike roots and are hand in gloves with the Contractors) 3) Periodic Audit must be conducted by Govt officials. The Officials found careless should be transferred immidiately. 4) An Office exclusively to address Suggestions/ Complaints only should be set up . Just some thoughts for a Speedy, Accident free and Qualitatively built National Highways...

This is nothing but another Jumla by minister of Modi Govt. The word 'Feku' deserved to be bestoed upon BJP. Forget about America, India will not be able to match the road networks that are put in place in countries such as Thailand. The reason why I am saying because in India we are just trying to upgrade the existing roads connecting cities. Where as in USA the highways are built first and cities will come up later. There will not be any exits and entries in the highways for miles where as in India highways have mutlple exit and entry points.

In America if 1000 dollars are sanctioned for a road, the full 1000 dollars are used fir the road. BUT in India if 1000 rupees are sanctioned, only 300 rupees are actually used for the road. The balance 700 rupees get evaporated into thin air. The situation being such how can we compare ourselves with America???

any GOVTs 1st priority is giving its citizens food,shelter.jobs.. & meaningful conveyance.road is FUNDEMENTAL right of people.but what gadkari/fekus doing is TAKING AWAY that right. IF you use any HW you've to pay hefty toll & if fast tag not there then DOUBLE the charge!! & worse there're NO alternative roads, means you by force have to pay exorbitant toll whatever the condition of road! THIS is after paying hefty GST on vehicle/petrol & everything !!! agreed it costs constructing good roads but isnt it the govt for ? we pay all sorts of tax & one of the reason we pay is to provide GOOD ROADS & for that also we end up paying TAX upon TAX upon TAX !! NOW new addition MONITIZING even the roads, meaning company that can own a road deny the service for some people HOWZZAT !!

Why do we need to compare ourselves with America. If you want to construct roads at that level....please raise the standard of living of our country. Here, roads are lying like orphans and majority people do not have second hand bike also ....Lets not forget our sanskriti. Why we need to follow foreigners ? We dont have our own brain and our own style to improve our roads????

Great thinking by gadkari but make sure crossing and side walks in local roads is important. Currently walking and driving are the same roads. For seniors no side walks with self riding auto.wheel.chair. develop.with proper planning like US style. Also creat animal.crossig bridges in forest areas to prevent for animals cross on roads which is dangerous for both public vehicles and animals to die. Spend one time and do it right. Make sure nobody take a short cut and corruption involves. Make nice highways so everyone remembers you gadkari saheb another 100 years like people remember for George Fernandes for his contribution for Konkan Railway.

In amit shah words all what they say is jumla, in 2014 they said by 2020 india will have world class roads now 2024 election time. And why he wants to build roads in varnasi he said that he will introduce flying bus. Gadkari was one of a honest minister in bjp but from the time bjps graph is on down slide he is competing with pm.
