Govt announces Rs 25 lac for slain Bajrang Dal worker Harsha's kin

Shivamogga, March 3 (IANS): The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 25 lac to the family of Bajrang Dal worker Harsha, who was killed on February 20.

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj K S Eshwarappa said on Thursday, March 3 that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai communicated to him about his decision over the phone.

Eshwarappa said that he along with former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa will pay a visit to the house of Harsha on March 6 and hand over the compensation amount to his family.

Through the online campaign, more than Rs 60 lakh has been collected in the account of Harsha's mother.

Harsha, the Hindu activist, was murdered in Shivamogga leading to widespread violence in the district. The government has said that it was more than a murder and the miscreants wanted to give a 'message with the murder'. CM Bommai said that the probe agencies will go to the roots and find out the 'invisible' hands behind murder.

The police have arrested 10 persons so far. The Shivamogga city was placed under curfew for seven days and returned to normalcy from Monday (February 28).

The Hindu activists in Karnataka have launched a movement on social media demanding ticket for one of the family members of Harsha from the ruling BJP to contest the Assembly elections. Srirama Sena Founder Pramod Muthalik has issued a strong statement that the BJP party should not corner Hindutva activists with whose backing they come to power.

The campaign is growing stronger day by day and the ruling BJP is miffed about the turn of events. The Hindu activists have slammed the ruling BJP government for reaping political gains and doing little for the grassroots workers who pay with their lives fighting for Hindutva principles. The seat is presently represented by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa.

The minister has said that he is ready to give away his constituency to a family member of Harsha, if the party decides.

Why this disparity in giving compensation? For Party workers more and for others only one to three lakhs. After all whose money govt. is giving as compensation? Is it from Govt.s ancestral property or tax payers money? So if our Govt. grants compensation to Tom, Dick and Harry like this , definitely govt will become bankrupt soon.

Looks like only FAKE announcements for votes. Yesterday we read 'Shivamogga: Mother of killed Hindu worker in penury, picks rags for survival'. Only big big numbers like 15 lakhs in 2014, till today nobody got 15 paise. All these fake promises for 2024 LS election. Check with this family after 3 years, they will tell they are cleaning public toilets!

Dear Mr. RSS Bommai, you are only interested in pleasing the family of Bajrang activist. You don't seem to be bothered about our Karnataka students apart from students of other states, stuck in war torn Ukraine. They are being assaulted, and pushed out of trains. One Chikkaballapura student has appealed for help. They have nowhere to go and nobody to turn to. One kannadiga Naveen died. I doubt whether you are aware of this, because you are being too eager to please your Nagpur Masters and only worry about Harsha. What are you afraid of? Why are you ignoring the pleas of those stranded students. This is an international issue and is more important than some local murder case. God is watching from above. The cries of these students will haunt you for the rest of your life. Beware!

On what grounds govt announced this money from public fund? The investigation has not even started and causes of death and people behind this crime are yet to be identified. He did not lose life while fighting for the nation unlike any soldier or police personnel. Neither was it an accident while on duty. If govt gives money in this incident then they should declare the same amount to every murder, irrespective of caste creed and status

Whatever happened was wrong, but it's also the truth that he had criminal cases against him,he wasn't innocent. The murder was for persons enmity I'm itself as the investigation has shown but making it into political and communal gives the ruling party some mileage. I remember very well how controversy of a thing it was when Kabir who was shot while transporting cattle and when Congress announced compensation there was a huge uproar. Wrong is wrong,be it Kabir or Harsha, fuel shouldn't be added to fire. As responsible citizens one should try to see that such things don't happen in the future, but developments like these are sad.
