Puttur, Mar 4: The police here have arrested Chandrashekhar (57) from Bandaje village on the charges of raping a mentally retarded lady. It is said that the lady was raped by him near Kanyoor in the taluk.

The brother of the girl had left to drop off his parents at the family farm in Charvaka village to undertake some agriculture-related work there. His elder sister, who is mentally retarded, was alone at her home at this time. When the youth came back from Charvaka, he was surprised to find that his sister was not at home. He went searching for her and saw her coming back home from a nearby hillock.

When questioned, the lady revealed that the accused, Chandrashekhar, ordered her to accompany him to the hillock failing which he would harm her. She said she was threatened and led to a spot in the hillock. On the basis of complaint filed by the brother of the lady, the accused was arrested.
