Mangalore, Jan 13: Out of 64 cases relating to the eviction of unauthorized religious structures in the district, 10 constructions have been voluntarily removed by the concerned. The deputy commissioner (DC) of the district, Subodh Yadav, has ordered for the clearance of 24 other constructions.  He also issued instructions to the concerned to take steps in six ineligible cases as per recommendations, and to collect additional details in respect of the balance 24 cases.

This information was given by the DC at the meeting relating to clearance of unauthorized religious structures, held on Wednesday January 12 at his office.

The DC, noting that the response for the earlier plea for voluntary eviction of the structures in the district was lukewarm, had issued another detailed circular, as per which targets had been set for implementing the orders of the apex court. At the meeting on Wednesday, the DC provided the above information relating to the steps taken to clear unauthorized religious structures from public places like roads, parks etc.

The DC said that review of progress in this connection will be conducted every Wednesday at the district level. He called upon the officials to implement the guidelines to their level best, and advised them to ensure that no rumours are allowed to be spread. He added that the tahsildars, who are the taluk magistrates, and the policemen, will lend assistance for maintaining law and order during clearance operations.

The DC ordered issuance of notice to the officials of National Highways Authority of India for failing to give information about a place of worship near Mulky, calling upon them provide reply within 48 years. Officials of this department were not present at the meeting.

Additional DC, Prabhakar Sharma, assistant commissioner of Puttur, all the tahsildaras, chief officers of municipalities, and commissioner of Mangalore Urban Development Authority, Madhukar Gadkar, were present at the meeting.
