Mangaluru, Mar 5: The annual catechism day of St Joseph the Worker Church, Neermarga was held with much fervour and enthusiasm recently. It was the day to thank the Lord for the gift of Faith and also for acquisition of knowledge on Liturgy and Sacraments, Morality, Prayer and Evangelization and Apostolic Life. It was also the day marked to honour the Top Scorers in the Catechism Examination conducted on February 20.
The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Fr Anil Canute D Mello, parish priest. In the inspiring and thought-provoking homily, he said, "We can store goodness in our hearts by clearing the decks of all that causes our hearts to go rotten; lingering on past injuries, blaming others, presuming ill intentions of others, judging people with prejudices. For this we have to do some hard work like reconciliation, controlling of tongues, spiritual reading, celebration of Eucharist. Further he underlined the duties and responsibilities of parents towards their children."
At the end of the Eucharistic Celebration the meritorious students of Grades 1 to 12 holding first three places in the catechism annual examination were awarded with prizes. Celestine Saldanha, parish catechism coordinator announced the names of the winners. Fr Anil expressed his sincere thanks to the coordinator and the Sunday catechism faculty for assuming an invaluable role in molding the students, orienting them towards good values and right attitudes and felicitated them with mementos. The prizes were sponsored by Philip Rebello.
In all these, there has been a force behind – an operative or a motivating force, in the person of Fr Anil D'Mello the parish priest. His generosity, availability, deep interest to impart sound instructions to the children and the love for the children have not enough words to explain or express.
