Mar 5: Dakshina Kannada reports five Covid cases;  Udupi adds four infections

Mangaluru/ Udupi, Mar 5: Dakshina Kannada on Saturday, March 5, reported five new coronavirus cases while Udupi registered four cases.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,35,422 out of which 34 are currently active.

As many as 9 patients were discharged from hospitals on Saturday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,847.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,15,80,380 as fine in 95,957 incidents of mask violation.

Udupi

A total of 4 new cases were reported on Saturday. The total active Covid cases are 52. A total of 19 patients were discharged from hospitals on Saturday.

Udupi taluk reported 4 cases.

A total of 10,51,221 people have received first dose of vaccination and 9,53,512 have received both doses and 44,436 people have received booster dose.

A total of 53 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far.

    Would really hate to be one of the few cases, especially after double vaccination which apparently is not a barrier against infection.
