Udupi, Mar 6: The Adani owned Udupi Power Corporation Limited, on Sunday, March 6, along with its CSR wing Adani Foundation, distributed scholarships worth Rs 20 lac to the identified meritorious students residing in 12 Grama Panchayats around UPCL plant.
As many as 905 students received the scholarship benefits today in a stage programme organized at an open auditorium of Buntara Bhavan in Padubidri. The programme was kick-started by lighting of lamp by Lalalji R Menon, MLA, Kaup, who also presided over the programme.
Kishore Alva, president and executive director of Adani, Jayanth Kumar, president of Yellur Grama Panchayat, Ravi Shetty, president of Padubidri GP, Kasturi Praveen, president of Thenka GP, Jyothi, president of Bada GP, Gayathri Prabhu, president of Palimaru GP, Kusha Moolya, president of Inna GP, Mamata Divakar Poonja, president of Balakunje GP, Sharmeela, president of Majoor GP, Latha S Acharya, president of Kuthyaru GP and Sharath, vice president of Belapu GP.
Kishore Alva, delivering the foreword, informed that UPCL in association with Adani Foundation, was executing CSR works in the field of Education, Health, Rural Infrastructure Development, Sports and Cultural activities. Today under its educational initiatives, Adani Foundation is distributing scholarship to 905 meritorious students, identified through respective GPs, residing in and around UPCL plant, worth a total of Rs 20 lac.
He said that the students who have secured 85 percent and above in their academics during the academic year 2020-21 in SSLC, ITI, PUC, diploma, graduation, post-graduation, engineering and medical courses were honoured with the scholarships. He informed that honouring the meritorious students with scholarship motivates them to pursue higher studies and will impart thinking of competitive spirit among other students. He told that eradication of illiteracy and promoting the education to the rural sections of the society is also one among the prime focuses of Adani Foundation in the field of education.
Alva added that Adani Foundation, with the motivation and inspiration by founder chairman Gautam Adani, has been organizing ‘Udaan’ programme under its focus area of education. Under Udaan, more than 15,000 students have been so far invited to UPCL plant, facilitating them to gain knowledge in their academics and the programme aims at inspiring the students to have a vision in their life.
He also informed that Adani has ventured into international airport in Mangaluru and city gas distribution project at Udupi and would facilitate in undertaking more development works under CSR in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts.
Lalalji R Mendon, MLA, Kaup, said that UPCL, after taking over by Adani, was executing many developmental works in the sistrict in the field of education, health and rural infrastructure and are commendable. He expressed happiness over the company’s gift to the society in the field of education. He applauded the Adani’s contribution to Udupi District during both the phases of Covid pandemic by generously contributing towards establishment of ICU ventilator wards in District Hospital, Udupi, Government Hospital at Karkala and Kundapur.
Further Lalaji informed that Adani should come forward and help the Udupi district administration in upgrading the mortuary facilities at the Kaup Government Hospital. He advised the students to take the benefit of this scholarship and aim for higher education and work for the development of the society.
He said that Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts stood ahead in the field of education in the state and it is a matter of pride students here keep securing 1 st rank in SSLC and PUC. He appreciated that Udupi had created a benchmark in the field of education, wherein students across the states and country were coming here to pursue higher education. Adani’s scholarship to the students is a motivational aspect for the students to take-up higher education, he added.
Yellur Grama Panchayat president Jayanth Kumar spoke on the occasion and expressed happiness on the development works being undertaken by Adani UPCL in nearby villages. He informed that UPCL, during the regime of earlier administration, had failed to implement village development works under CSR and had lost villagers’ confidence. Now, after Adani took over the UPCL project, it has gained the confidence by way of implementing various development works under its CSR in nearby villages.
Later Kusha Moolya, president of Inna Grama Pancayat, welcomed the initiatives of Adani Group in making the CSR benefits reaching the rural people. He requested to consider Inna Grama Panchayat too for community infrastructure development works under Adani CSR.
Ravi Shetty, president of Padubidri Grama Panchayat, informed that the Padubidri Grama Panchayat also had witnessed development works of Adani UPCL under CSR in his Panchayat.
Ravi R Jere, DGM, Adani UPCL welcomed the guests. Deviprasad Bellibettu convened the programme and proposed a vote of thanks.
