Panaji, Jan 14: The annual 'Lokotsav 2011' festival of folk dances, songs, music, art, handicrafts and food was held from January, 4 to 13, 2011.
The National level folk festival was inaugurated by Chief minister Digambar Kamat along with the director of Directorate of Art and Culture, Govt of Goa, V M Prabhudesai, Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa in the presence of other dignitaries at the Darya Sangam at Kala Academy in Panaji.
The event was jointly organised by Directorate of Art and Culture, Govt of Goa, West Zone cultural Centre-Udaipur, Kala Academy-Goa and Sports Authority of Goa.
The traditional dancers from across the country captured the hearts of every Goan who visited this festival. There were various folk dance performances like Manipuri Ras-Manipur, Bihu-Assam, Bhangda-Punjab, Gotipua-Orissa, Lawani-Maharashtra, Chari-Rajashthan, Manganiar-Rajashthan, Badhai-Norta-Madhya Pradesh, Kummi Kolattam-Tamil Nadu, Puppetiers-Rajashthan, Bahurupia-Rajashthan, Mewasi-Gujarat, Siddhi Dhamaal-Gujarat and Goan Folk dances. As far as handicrafts were concerned, the Goans got a taste of Mosadi, Bandhani, leather work, patch work, beed work, glass work, miniature art paintings, fabrics, handlooms, traditional wooden toys, jewellery and above all Goan handicrafts.
