Mangaluru, Mar 10: Dr Edmond Fernandes, founder, CHD Group – holding UNECOSOC Special Consultative Status and director, Edward & Cynthia Institute of Public Health has been invited by the US Government to deliberate in the Alumni Thematic International Exchange Seminar (TIES) on 'Public Health and Climate Crisis in the Indo-Pacific' scheduled for May in Thailand.
The US State Department of which Dr Edmond Fernandes is an alumnus, is building a strong cohort of 60 exchange alumni living in the US and countries in East Asia, South Asia and the Pacific to explore the public health risks of climate change in the Indo-Pacific region and develop cross-national solutions to strengthen response plans to environmental and public health -related crisis. This cohort of 60 around the indo-pacific will clarify ways for young leaders in the region to shape response efforts and also interact with industry leaders on the intersection of public health, climate change and disaster preparedness.
Dr Edmond Fernandes has been working hard in shaping conversations around the disaster risk reduction–climate change and public health consequences in the Asia pacific region both through his work at CHD Group and also as a Consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific Region.
Dr Edmond has worked in several national disasters in India in the past and has been leading the COVID-19 effort for CHD Group since the lockdown of March 2020 impacting over 4 lac plus lives around India, 50,000 plus farmers and covering over 6800 plus villages. At the Edward & Cynthia Institute of Public Health, he and his team will be setting up the Center for Disasters, Climate Response and Public Health as part of the larger policy think-tank in shaping global frameworks working in close quarters with the Government of India and the United Nations.
