Udupi: Foundation Stone Laid for Fisherwomen’s Market in Padubidri

Udupi, Jan 16: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of Fisherwomen’s market at Padubidri town was held here on Sunday January 16.


The Fisherwomen’s market will be developed at a cost of Rs 80 lac by Coastal Development Authority (CDA).
 
After laying the foundation stone of the building, CDA chairman Nagaraj Shetty said that the talks are underway with National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) by the state administration to develop the infrastructure facilities at Hemjamady fisheries port. In order to curb the sea-erosion, the permanent sea wall /barriers will be erected in 325 kilometres of coastal Karnataka. The wall would be built from the erosion prone spots beginning from Ullal in Mangalore, at a cost of Rs 800 crore under ADB project, Nagaraj added.
 
Under rural electrification project, 1,000 poor families will be provided with solar lights in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The essential minor culverts along the roads across the Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Karnataka districts will be constructed at a cost of Rs 18 crore.  A concrete road parallel to national highways and fisheries road at a stretch of 1,200 kilometers from Karwar to Talapady will be laid in private partnership, he added.
 
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Byndoor MLA K Laxminarayan, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, CDA member Ravindranat D Hegde, ZP member Geethanjali Suvarna, TP member Bhasker, Padubidri gram panchayat president Vijayalaxmi Acharya, undivided DK district Co-operative Fisheries Marketing Federation  president Yashpal Suvarna, Fisheries Marketing Development Board president Nithin Kumar and other fisheries department officers were present on the occasion.
