Karkala, Jan 17: The bodies of Manjuna (28), wife of Harish, a resident of Punkedadi, Mulladka near here, and her child, Rakshit (2), were found floating in a well in Mulladka in Mundkoor village on Sunday January 16. This is suspected to be a case of suicide.

The bodies were found from a well located in the farm house of the family. Manjula, who is from Kallamundkur, had married Harish four years ago. Harish is employed abroad. On Sunday morning, the family members went in search for Manjula, as she was not found in the house. After finding her mobile and footwear near the well, they peeped into the well and found two bodies floating, it is gathered.

The family members of Manjula have alleged that she chose to commit suicide because of mental torture heaped on her by her husband and his family members.  They are said to have told the policemen that Manjula’s elder sister, who resides in Kateel, had invited her to participate in a Yakshagana performance organized at her place on January 14, and that Harish had told his father over phone that if Manjula attends this programme, she need not come back to his home. they suspect that this might have hurt her deeply, and that she might have decided to commit suicide on this count.

A case was registered in rural police station in the town in this connection.
