Minister Eshwarappa feels even UNO cannot put Bengaluru in order

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Minister for rural development and panchayat raj, K S Eshwarappa, expressed the opinion that even if the United Nations Organization (UNO) takes up the challenge of setting Bengaluru in order, it will fail in its aim. He said that this city is in such a bad mess.

In reply to a question raised by a Congress member, P R Ramesh, during the question hour in the assembly, Eshwarappa said that haphazard house construction has taken place in various places of the city. "A cabinet sub-committee has been formed to set them right. Steps are being taken to see that effluents do not get discharged into lakes and ponds. We are preparing a project report for the development of 554 ponds," he explained.

The minister stated that 1,306 extensions have come up in converted lands in 86 gram panchayat limits within Bengaluru city. The number of residential complexes and extensions which have been built after getting permission from the government bodies and planning authorities is 970. As many as 336 extensions have been officially handed over to the gram panchayat administrations for managing them. The gram panchayats have been maintaining civic amenities at these extensions," he explained.

Eshwarappa stated that there are 336 unauthorized residential complexes or extensions including 40 in Avalahalli, 25 in Doddagubbi, ten in Halinayakanahlli, 23 in Kannur, 20 in Mandoor, five in Bannerghatta, three in Bidaraguppe, 54 in Mantap, 20 in Mayasandra, 28 in Sarjapur, 20 in Shantipura, 25 in uskoor, 20 in Kadabagere, and 1 7 in Hulimangala. He stated that taxes have been collected from sites and buildings with power connections as at June 2013.

The minister said that in order to find a solution to the problems created with the implementation of software, E-Swattu and E-Aasti which are meant for properties in rural areas and urban centres respectively, a cabinet sub-committee has been formed and once recommendation of the committee are received, steps would be taken to collect taxes.

when the Govt and city administration themselves do not have the will to improve the city, what will the UN do? Instead of bleating, Eshwarappa should take up the challenege to restore order to the city - he will be much admired for that, if he attempts the feat.

Phir gaya tax ka paisa aur bhains paani mein. Loot in the name of lakes development. I bet you guys. not even 10 % of the 554 ponds will get rejuvenated in 10 years from now. Lagi shart? Wahan namami gange, Bengaluru mein lakes and ponds and coastal region mein sea erosion ke naam pe loot. Now in June/July MP's and MLA's will come to see the beauty of Sea erosion. It's a annual picnic for them. Then wohi ghisi piti kahani.
