Mangaluru: Karnataka governor Thawar Chand Gehlot visits Jain math

Mangaluru, Mar 14: The governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot visited the Jain temple here at 4 PM on Monday, March 14.

He obtained Dhavala Traya Grantha Jina, Bimba darshana, offered Vinaya Pooja, had a look at ancient writings and was glad. He unveiled the plaques of Jain Kashi Basadi as wished by Swasti Dr Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji.

He said that he has been inspired by the principles and teaching of Jain religion since his childhood. He assured that he would inform the governments at the centre and the state to help in the projects taken up by the seer in Moodbidri.

Bhattaraka Swamiji said that the leaders in the country should try to stop violence, pain, sufferings and war. “Moodbidri is an ancient Jain centre of peace, literature and culture. The governor who has great respect towards religion, literature and art should visit the temple in the future also,” he said after felicitating the governor presenting him a shawl, garland, book and fruits.

The seer handed over to the governor an appeal about the projects taken up by the seer. City municipal council chief executive Indu, National Limbs Foundation Chairman Lal Goel and former minister Abhayachandra Jain paid their respects to the governor. The governor saw the thousand pillar basadi and expressed joy after obtaining details of its history and architecture.

M Bahubali Prasad welcomed. Patla Shetty Sudesh, Dinesh Adarsh, Kuldeep Aramane, Shwetha Shambhav, Poornachandra and Dr S P Vidya Kumar were present. Swasti Shree College principal Saumya compered the programme. Swasti Shree college students sang a prayer. Sanjayantha Kumar Shetty proposed a vote of thanks.
