Byndoor, Mar 18: A case under the provisions of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act stands filed against Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty and others. This complaint has been filed based on the allegation that Dr Veena Narayan Shiroor, who was working as dental surgeon at the community health centre, Byndoor, was transferred to the government hospital at Ankola unnecessarily.
As per the complaint, Sukumar Shetty has been accused of getting Dr Vatsala Goni transferred to Byndoor from Ankola government hospital and transferring Dr Veena to Ankola by exerting pressure on the officials. It is alleged that the MLA had written to the chief minister, seeking to transfer Dr Veena to Ankola. It is said that this was done at the behest of Nagaraj Kharvi, husband of Dr Vatsala, who is working in the veterinary hospital, Byndoor.

It is said that Nagaraj had requested the MLA to post Dr Vatsala to Byndoor. Nagaraj allegedly obtained assistance of ten persons from Byndoor for this purpose. There are allegations that the MLA had levelled false charges against Dr Veena for getting her transferred out of Byndoor.
The undersecretary in the health department, bending under pressure, reportedly transferred Dr Veena on August 31, 2020 in place of Dr Vatsala. Later, Dr Veena met the MLA and explained about her grievances. But the MLA is said to have told her that for him, 9,000 votes of the community to which Nagaraj belongs is more important than Dr Veena. He also is said to have warned the doctor not to keep meeting him again.
The officials said that a case under the above act has been registered against the MLA and 12 others.
