Sullia: Gang of six dacoits gag family, loot valuables worth Rs 5.5 lac

Sullia, Mar 21: In a shocking incident that is reported from Chattekallu Ambashrama of Sampaje village of the taluk, six unidentified dacoits entered a house, gagged the family members and looted gold and valuables worth Rs 5.5 lac.

This robbery took place in the wee hours of Monday, March 21.

According to the complaint, Asha S Heggade lives with her husband and children at her in-laws house at Ambashrama. On March 20, her husband and uncle had gone to Madikeri to attend a pooja. Only Asha, her children, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandfather and grandmother were there.

In the night at around 8.30 PM, the family heard the dogs barking. When Asha went to the hall to check, three masked men in the age group of 20 to 35 years wearing gloves entered the house. They were carrying lethal weapons. They caught hold of Asha, gagged her mouth with plaster and snatched the golden chain from her neck. They were all speaking in Tamil.

Soon, three more men entered the hall and asked the grandmother to give away the keys of the almirah by placing a knife on her neck. They took the key and looted Rs 2500 cash from the wallet of Asha's father-in-law and a Samsung mobile phone.

Two other robbers took Rs 1.5 lac cash that was kept in two lockers and two bags. They wrapped that in white cloth and handed it over to the other person. They went to the terrace and searched for some more items and came down when they did not get anything.

Out of the six robbers, was aged about 45 to 50 years while the five others are in the age group of 20 to 30, it is said. They threatened the family members with dire consequences while leaving the house.

Once they left the house, the complainant Asha saw that the landline phone was broken into pieces and they had taken away gold and cash worth Rs 5.5 lac.

A case in this connection is registered in Sullia police station.
