BJP forcing 'James' off Karnataka screens for 'The Kashmir Files': Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Mar 23 (IANS): Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah triggered a controversy on Tuesday by alleging that BJP leaders are forcing movie theatres to screen 'The Kashmir Files' instead of 'James' starring late Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Assembly session here, Siddaramaiah alleged that the producer of 'James' had confided in him about the issue.

"Since the producers of 'James' have booked theatres by paying advance amounts, forcing the theatres to screen 'The Kashmir Files' is nothing but harassment," Siddaramaiah told mediapersons.

'James', which released on March 17, is Puneeth Rajkumar's last film as an actor. The highly-popular actor and youngest son of thespian Rajkumar died of cardiac arrest in October last year.

The Vivek Agnihotri directed 'The Kashmir Files', which deals with the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley more than 30 years ago, has been made tax-free by the ruling BJP in Karnataka.

The Kashmir Files is like the hijab issue a trailer for the Gujarat elections. The BJP can only raise issues that divide society meant to polarise people and win elections. Governance and peoples issues are ignored and a must to make the Govt Accountable not these petty Communal issues.

After the 5-0 washout 2 weeks back, RaGa issued a statement that 'we will learn from our mistakes' . Guess it fell into deaf ears. Bashing BJP for each and everything has bought the Grand old party to its grave. Siddu is seen repeating the same mistake. Every distributor and theater owner is here for profit. For sure they will sell and screen any movie that will make money. Tomorrow some xhitty Bollywood movie is released that for sure makes money, he will remove Kashmir files and screen that movie as priority, even if he personally does not like it. Its the rule of the game.

Trying desperately to stay floating by taking Puneet Rajkumar name now. So despos they have become. Theater owner has all rights to put which shows he wants. Whatever generates more income he will put it whether its Kasmir files or Chamundeshwari files or Badami files.

Siddaramayya is not happy with DKS raised to the helm of Congress in Karnataka. The mood in Karnataka seems to favour completely for Congress in the coming assembly elections. Sidhu will ruin it by hook or crook. I don't think Sidhu is unaware of the consequences of statements like this!

Ever since this Siddu joined Congress, its been a downhill slide for the party. Was there a need to state something like this. He is indirectly campaigning for the BJP. He has to control his motor mouth , if not the same fate or UP will be faced by the Congress. Not all candidates are previleged to an extra 'safe constituency' to back on.

Hath Katro Stambh in Ella, Old Goa: It is a witness to the bloodiest chapter of Brutality on Hindus by the Portuguese Christians led by Francis Xavier during the inquisition of Goa. This was the place where the hands of Hindus were chopped off if they did not accept Christianity. For this contribution, the Vatican coronated Francis Xavier with Sainthood and all Indians visiting Goa lit candles to pay homage for his historic contribution. His dead body is on proud display in Basilica of Bom Jesus just 500mts from the Hath Katro Stambh. This brutality continued long after Francis's death. It was only after Shivaji chopped off the head of 2 Bishops in retaliation that this brutality stopped. As is the case with many historical monuments this Hath Katro Stambh has been relegated to an insignificant pole under a flyover in Ella Old Goa.

Some intellectuals want a movie "The Goa Files" based on this brutality. Well now the film makers sensing money on these kind of movies, attempts will be made to stigmatize todays Christians for no fault of theirs.

Dear Jerome, The Goa Inquisition was against new converts to clean them off old customs. One may not agree with their method but it should be known that they were not Hindus. Moreover there is no proof or accusations that Francis Xavier was involved in any of this. .This is just a propaganda to create hatred . Since theses people are making a living by accusing others ,it is time ask those who accuse us to produce 5000 year old certificate (certified by united nations)that were issued to their ancestors that they were not forcibly converted to Hinduism when the Vedas were written

Its true that Well to do Saraswath Brahmins (Kamath,Prabhu, Shenoy etc.. mostly Konkani Speaking Brahmins) )were Portuguese Prime targets. 500 years old history is well documented. Portuguese made a Law to torture people to convert or else flee or Die. Your surname "CRASTA" is Portuguese given by ripping of you tradition and origin. They should have at least left alone your ansetrial name.

@ Mr. Jerome D'Souza, Panjim, Agree, those were the unfortunate days, a dark spot in the history of Christianity, when the dreaded inquisition was in force all over Europe, not sparing even Goa. That was an era when church elders were construed as undisputed leaders. "The church never erred" was the adage in usage, a period when they deviated from the path shown by their Master.

Shetty, I condemn what happened to Pandits, but this was not required given that fact that we are living in a volatile & demented times. There are a lot of incidents in history where innocent people were killed and suffered for someone's selfish intentions. I would never say we should forget - I have been hearing stories of Pandits from my Hindu friends for a long time justifying atrocities happening to Muslims. This is just not right, & given the fact that hatred is already in the air - we should work on dealing with the big elephant in the room, not open wounds so that many other innocent lives suffer.

One need not see "Kashmir Files" in order to know the pain of Kashmiri Pandits. Films always have a mixture of facts and fiction. But anybody can actually feel the pain of these unfortunate people by personally meeting them in the streets of Bangalore or Mumbai.

The only difference is Punjab Siddu had no 'Safe Constituency ' to back on. So after his huge loss his career is finished. Karnataka Siddu was allotted Badami as a back up plan where he just managed victory. He was sure that he will be booted out of his home constituency Chamundeshwari.

Just shows how hate is bigger than love. People want their agendas to be fulfilled for upcoming elections so much that they don't care about the bereaved soul of a human being, neither do they care about the team who's worked so hard on that movie. Giving awards in front of media and doing such things behind is the lowest levels one can fall too.
