Mangaluru: Police inspector suspended from service over foreign visit without prior permission

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 23: Muhammad Sharief, currently discharging duties in the city traffic (north) police station here, has been suspended from service for undertaking foreign trip without obtaining prior permission of the department.

Sharief had availed leave from March 16 to 19 to attend religious programme at his native place. On March 20, he had sought additional leave. But the department has come to know that Sharief had travelled to Dubai during this period without keeping the department informed and getting advance permission.

Serving employees of the police department are not permitted to visit foreign nations without prior permission of the department. Therefore, city police commissioner, N Shashi Kumar, issued an order suspending him from service for violating the police department rules, pending departmental inquiry. Sharif stands suspended for his act of indiscipline in spite of being in a position of responsibility. He has been found to have behaved in a way which does not behove of the post he holds.

It is learnt that any employee of the police department, before leaving the headquarters on a visit to other nations, has to apply in advance and get permission from the department head for undertaking the trip. Even though Sharief availed leave with permission, he did not seek permission to undertake foreign travel. He has been suspended on the basis of preliminary inquiry pending departmental inquiry as he has been found to have violated rule 8 of the Karnataka Civil Services (conduct) Rules 2021.

May be the police inspector considers his job as just like any other job. However, he is part of the security establishment and there are reasons for the rules in place. At the least he could have kept his higher ups about his travel plans. I don't think travel to Dubai can happen overnight and there are elaborate preparations needed for the same. There was no need to keep it secret.

Given the circumstances; Name 'Sharif' itself is enough for suspicion. !! Situation is such that, Muslim Officers are expected to be 'absolutely angels' otherwise, will be labelled as terrorists. Hope he will be reinstated after the inquiry.

No no not at all ...if one is smart and have right people in contact. This constable must have had unfaithful friends in his friend's list who leaked his information. We call such people back stabbers. Days are such that right hand cannot believe left hand....I am surprised, going abroad for few days is an offense ???

@ Cynthia, offence not only in India, even in Saudi those working in police and army are not permitted to travel out of the country. Even foreigners serving in these two departments, the country they travel during leave is mentioned in the letter of permission. They cannot travel to any other country.
