Mangaluru: CFAL to host open rapid chess tournament

Mangaluru, Apr 1: In a bid to promote excellence in thought, Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) in association with Derik’s Chess School, Mangaluru is organising an open rapid chess tournament on Sunday April 3 for different age groups at the CFAL premises in Bejai-Kapikad Road.

The tournament is categorised into U-6, U-8, U-10, U-13, U-16 for both boys and girls, and an open category with no age limit. Players can choose to participate in any one category.

Chess enthusiasts from all over the state will be participating in the event. Cash prizes worth Rs 30,000 will be awarded to the various category winners along with trophies. Participation certificates will also be awarded to all the participants.

The event aims to welcome both amateur and top players from all over the state. Visitors are expected to witness some spectacular performances as players get to finally engage in over the board of chess again, after a long time. “This is an exciting chance for players, right from the Under-6 category, who will have an opportunity to showcase their talent and excel in the sport," programme coordinator – CFAL, Vijay Moras said.

Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) was established to promote scientific thought and strong conceptual understanding among the students in Mangalore. It may be recalled that the centre has been instrumental in changing the paradigm of learning and students have secured phenomenal results in various competitive exams like NEET, JEE (Mains & Adv.), Olympiads, KCET, NTSE etc.
