Udupi: Large quantity of Horekanike offered to Uchila Sri Mahalakshmi temple

Udupi, Apr 2: Devotees and villagers from various parts of Udupi offered food grains, vegetables and groceries as Horekanike of the Sri Mahalakshmi temple, Uchila as part of its Punar Prathishte, Brahmakalasha Punyotsava, Rathotsava, Chathuhapavithra and Nagamandalotsava programmes on Friday April 1.

Nadoja Dr G Shankar, president, Brahmakalasha Punyotsava committee and honorary president, renovation committee, inaugurated the Horekanike procession in Muloor.

More than 2,000 vehicles that carried rice bags, food grains, vegetables and coconuts and other items took part in the procession. Around 20,000 devotees thronged to the temple on Friday.

The Horekanike procession offerings belonged from Kundapur, Byndoor, Karkala, Udupi Padubidri, and Hejamady and even from some parts of Dakshina Kannada, Shiroor border and Uttara Kannada.

Horekanike procession culminated at the temple premises.

The grand procession was accompanied by colourful tableaus, traditional band sets, nasik band troupe, chende, dolu, kunitha Bhajane, statues, gymnastics team, poorna kumbha teams, men’s and women’s associations and many more cultural teams.

Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyur inaugurated renovated Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Sarovara (pond). Meanwhile, Veda Prakash Rao Shriyan, president, renovation committee, inaugurated Raja Gopura and Bhuvanendra Kediyoor, managing director, Kediyoor Hotels Private Limited performed Ugrana muhoortha. Suryanarayana Upadhyaya, trustee of Anegudde Sri Vinayaka temple, Kumbhashi and Dr Vijaya Ballal, trustee, Sri Janardhana Mahakali temple, Ambalpady were present.

All the religious rituals was performed under the guidance of Vidwan Kukkikatte Sri Raghavendra Thantri, Venkata Narasimha Upadhyaya and Raghavendra Upadhyaya, senior priests of the temple, and Vasthu expert Vidwan Subrahmanya Bhat Gundibailu.

Raghupati Bhat, MLA Udupi, Lalaji R Mendon, MLA Kaup, Pramod Madhwaraj, former MLA, Yashpal Suvarna, president, Undivided Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing Federation, Jaya C Kotian, president, Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana sangha, Gundu B Amin, president, renovation committee, Vasudeva Salian, president, temple management committee, Sudhakar Kundar, honorary general Secretary, Dakshina Kannada, Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, Subhaschandra Kanchan, vice president, Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, Vinay Karkera, treasurer, renovation committee, Shankar Salian, secretary, renovation committee, Bharath Yermal, treasurer, Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, Mohan Karkera, Those, joint secretaries, Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha and Ganghadhar Suvarna Yermal, Appi Salian, president, Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahila Mahajan Sangha were present.
