Mangaluru: Robbery of car buyer – Eight sentenced to seven years RI, fined

Mangaluru, Apr 2: Justice Balappa Jakati, judge of third additional district and session court of the city, sentenced eight accused, who robbed cash from people who came to buy car, to seven years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and slapped fine on each accused.

According to the details of the case, Chidananda Shetty, resident of Ashokanagar in the city was planning to buy a second hand Innova car. Sudhir, a resident of Kilenjar, who got the information, called Chidananda and introduced himself falsely as Avinash. He said that his uncle’s car is for sale at Talippadi and asked Chidananda to come to Talippadi with money.

Chidananda went to Talippadi along with his friends Bharath and Ashvith with Rs two lac cash. As they reached Talippadi, Ashivith was attacked by a group of eight people with sword, iron rod and punches. They arrived in a car, a bike and a scooter. The attackers were Shivaprasad alias Aiyappa (30), Sandeep B Poojary (28), Kartik Shetty (27), all residents of Kilenjaru village, Varun Kumar (26), resident of Tenka Ermal, Suvin Kanchan alias Munna (25), resident of Hejamadi, Gopala Gowda (39), resident of Paduperar, Sujith Shetty and Sudhir of Kodethur. The assailants forcefully took Rs two lac cash kept in the dashboard of the car.

A case was registered at Mulki police station. On completion of inquiry, all eight were sentenced to seven years RI under column 395 along with 397 and a fine of Rs 5,000 for each convict. In addition, all the convicts have to undergo two years of simple imprisonment for crime under column 440 and pay a fine of Rs 5,000.

Public prosecutor Narayana Sherigar U argued for the prosecution.
