Mangalore, Jan 30: The inauguration ceremony of Koti-Chennayya sports meet 2011 was organised by Billava Seva Samaja, Kankanady, and Mangalore which commenced in the premises of Shree Brahma Baidarkala Garadi on Sunday January 30. J Surendranath, founder president of Billava Seva Samaja lit the lamp and declared the sports meet open at 8.30 am. Earlier the sports torch was taken through Brahmashree Narayana Guru Mandir, Jeppinamogaru to Garodi Kshetra via Bajal, Karmar and Padil.
B Laxman Suvarna, president, Billava Samaja, Garodi, Kankanady presided over the programme. A Bhoja Karkera, manager, Shree Brahma Baidarkala Garadi, B Damodar Nisarga, J Vishwanath Poojary, K Gopal Poojary, J Keshava Angadimaru, J Bhavani Shankar, K Vaman and B R Lingappa Poojary among others were present.
The valedictory ceremony was conducted at 6.30 in the evening. Mayor Rajani Dugganna presided over the valedictory ceremony. Commissioner K N Vijay Prakash, K Chittharanjan, B Devdas Suvarna, Sunder Ullal, Muddu Moodubelle, Jagadeep Suvarna, Umappa Poojary, Vijaya Kumar Sorake, Sudarshan N, J Narayana Poojary were the chief guests. National and international level sports icons were felicitated and prizes were distributed to the winners of various sports events.
Dharmapal, chief secretary, Ramanand K, treasurer, Nagesh Salian, joint secretary, Chittaranjan Bolar, sports secretary, Umesh Salian, vice-president and committee members were present.
Frog race, chocolate game, 50 meter running race, balloon game were conducted for the children between 3 - 8 years. 100 meter running race, shot put, volley ball, tug of war, lagori, and throw ball were conducted for the children between 9 - 11 years. Musical chair, tug of war and shot put were conducted for women above 40 years. Pattabhirama Sullia presented the mimicry show later.
