Mangaluru: Intellectuals' district pushed to communal laboratory – Former minister Ramanath Rai

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 4: “BJP has resorted to politics of vengeance in order to hide their total failure in administration. The prices of fuel, fertilizers and daily commodities have skyrocketed,” said former minister Ramanath Rai.

Addressing the media here in the city, he further said, “Communal hatred has gone to extreme levels in the district of Dakshina Kannada. BJP is turning the district of intellectuals into a laboratory for communal ideology experiments. Non-Hindus are not allowed to do business in temple fairs. BJP is polarizing the society by boycotting Halal meat.

“Programmes held in temples are used as tools for communal ideology propagation. In the communal killings that took place in the district, only two religious outfits are involved. In these murders no Hindu who supports Congress or Muslim is there. In both the FIRs, Muslim and Hindu religious outfits are named. A panchayat vice president from Congress was also killed. Some say that there is reaction for every action. But Congress has never taken revenge. Congress always follows the constitution of Ambedkar," he said.

“If the communal hatred campaign of BJP goes beyond control it will lead to racial hatred. I pray with the almighty for peace and love. BJP should immediately stop vote bank politics. District administration should hold a peace meeting and avoid any future disasters", Rai suggested.

“Chaos are being created in the name of God, religion and patriotism. Real traitor is the one who criticizes freedom fighters who have suffered imprisonment for the sake of the country. Nehru sacrificed his whole family for the sake of India. It is blatant lie that boycotting of Muslim businesses is done because of their self-proclaimed bandh that was held against the Hijab ruling of high court. Muslim vendors were not allowed to do business during temple fairs three years ago. It is not right to say that there is connection between the Hijab issue and boycotting of Muslim traders.”

coastal belt was not known for "intellectuals"... of course students get high marks and make it to engineering, medical colleges... couple of guys who were intellectually oriented were suppressed and they diverted to other passions... one was g bhaksar mayya who was against social ills and false practices of religion... he left his activism and immersed himself in hindi literature... eric osario was also an intellectual but was shown the door by vested interests and he immersed in music... sorry to say DK and Udupi were hardly a place for intellectuals.... and a couple of journalists mungaru editor Vaddarse Shetty and another intellectual v t rajashekhar shetty... both were disliked and neglected by coastal belt people because of their forthrightness...

When you visited mosques to demonstrate your intellectual side and made stupid comments during your last attempt at reelection, you exemplified secularism. You are right, there is a communal laboratory that is trying to identify themselves away from your electoral love/success carefully hidden in the mosque. Did I forget to mention that those that do not visit mosque like you are the ones who decide your fate? Morning Sunshine....!!!

Dear Mr. Rai, whom are you blaming! Introspect yourself and your party. You will realise that it is Congress that allowed the proliferation of other political parties. Had you given good governance instead of corruption, today no other political party could have challenged you. Though you speak of secularism, don't you and your party men still support majority community appeasement? If you disagree, can you tell why your party does not raise its voice when minorities, dalits and the marginalised are consistently being targetted by right wing extremists and corner the government? Doing lip service is not the right way, you should show strong action. Have you done that? Why are you shedding crocodile tears now?
