Bengaluru: Ban on Halal cut meat will ruin poultry, goat, sheep farmers - Experts

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Apr 8: The experts have warned that prohibition on buying of Halal cut meat being compelled by the Hindu right wing organizations, will create a difficult situation for the farmers rearing chicken, goat and sheep.

Public health inventor Dr Silvia Karpagam had recently released a report on cow meat ban and highlighted how cattle farmers are facing hardships. They are unable to pay back the loan, hence are not willing to buy cattle from other farmers.

“The biggest fear faced by those who rear sheep, goat and chicken is the involvement of big organizations and the entry of middlemen. Local traders buy the animals. But middlemen will gobble all the profits,” says Dr Silvia.

Dr Rajeshwari Shankar, president of AWAKE says, “Most of the people who are involved in the business of sheep and goat, including transportation and slaughterhouse are Muslims.” She calls upon the people to volunteer to train farmers of rural areas.

Dr Shankar says, “Farmers will surely face hardship if Halal cut meat is prohibited. Traders will not buy the meat from Muslim suppliers. This will affect the supply chain and finally the farmers who are rearing these animals will suffer."

“Most of the farmers belong to the labour class, vagabonds, landless or small land holders. Most of them get involved in the trading of sheep, goat and chicken. Those who are into sheep and goat trading are poor farmers.”

Our ruling party seems to be fully focused on gaining 150+ seats in the 2023 Assembly elections, by 'hook or crook'. They are least bothered, even if our wonderful Golden Karnataka turns to dust, since they may have earned enough from their 2 Assembly terms and are assured of getting lifetime pension. 'Sabka saath, sabka vikas' has turned out to be just another slogan.

we recently have example of Sri Lanka where haste decisions taken by their Govt resulted into their worst economic situation. People are not able to afford basic commodities like rice, sugar, tea, salt etc where at one time, the country was famous worldwide for exporting tea. Hope our politicians won't end up repeating the same mistakes.

I cant agree with you more. you buy halaal and i will buy Jatka. now both of us are happy right?. to encourage more people to open Jatka shops as there are very few of them let us create awareness to encourage more Jatka meat sellers. There should not be any Ban on Halaal as some people eat only Halall. it is leaglly also not possible to enforce a ban. Let those who want Jhatka encourage many enterpreneours to open shop as there are hardly few.

A decade and few years ago state government wanted to set up a modern abattoir in Bangalore but all animal welfare groups and some non eaters of meat started agitation and it was stopped from getting established. If they hadn't done it illegal and unhygienic slaughter houses could have stopped and those who consume them would have got fresh hygienic meat instead of contaminated of present. Let people decide what they want to eat from whom to buy etc. Too much interference in people's choices, what they have to eat, what they have to wear etc., aren't good signs in a democratic society. Keep politicians and vested interests out from our personal choices and never get distracted by these non issues and focus only on price rise, hyper inflation, job losses and failed governance instead of becoming pawns in the hands of politicians who want to win in any way to live like royals instead of being servants of the people.

It is unfortunate that our so called educated people are ruining society by doing these rules and restrictions. Ban on Halal, ban on Beef, ban on hijab, ban on loud speakers, what not. Why are the authorities trying to target minority communities and making their living miserable? Instead of concentrating on development and infrastructure planning, our Govt is busy wasting time in these un-necessary issues. Talk about what you have done in Medical, Educational, basic infrastructure fields and plane what has to be done to improve these things, rather than doing this petty politics. Come on people grow up beyond narrow thinking. There is more than these things in your life to do and achieve.

The pain will be only at the trasition period. after that things will go fine. Many are not for banning Halaal but allow the people to make a choice. those eating halaal let them eat. those who do not should get an equal chance of buying non halaal meat. If bulk of the profits are retained by middlemen, then farmers can create coperative marketing soceities. The moot issue is aparthied created by HALAAL. why there should not be a choice?. why one sect should momopolise the trade at the expense of the other?

why don't they teach the farmers techniques of animal rendering and marketing of meats in a human way? Farmers will get an extra income. Religious animosity may be reduced in this way. have some Slauter houses based on science as well as well as cleanliness. Throughout the world, to a large extent we don't get halal meats, or anybody cares as long as it safe to consume.

According to our great minister Dr. Ashwath Narayan, Karnataka is competing globally in economics but he did not elaborate what is Karnataka competing with. But due to this whatever competition our inflation and unemployment has sky rocketed?. Ban on meat and restrictions on daily consumer items the prices of food and other items has soared to unprecedented levels but govt is only interested in communal issues for vote bank.

@Alwyn.... Humans get attracted to wrong things easily than good things... Similarly people get attracted to Alcohol and drugs easily once tasted irrespective of how much damage it causes and when its prohibited... Its the same with Pork.. May taste best and will get indulge into consuming it... If you ask Chinese or Taiwanese they will say snakes, bats, rats, horse etc are more tasty than pork.... If you ask me what non veg taste me the best, I will say Crab & Prawns... None can beat it's taste according to me.
