Mumbai: Police arrest two with heroin worth 6 cr

Mumbai, Apr 11: The city crime branch arrested a couple from Govandi and seized around two kgs of heroin worth Rs 5.80 crores on Thursday, April 7. The police also seized cash of Rs 76,500 from them which can be termed as one of the biggest drug seizures. The arrested accused are identified as, Shamim Khalid Khan (52) and her accomplice Rafiq Hussain Shaikh (67). Shamim’s husband, Khalid Khan, is already in jail in another drug peddling case. Police have booked the duo under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act (NDPS).

Deputy commissioner of police Neelotpal, along with city crime branch unit 3 led by inspector Sopan Kakad, spotted a woman who had been wanted by the police for possession of narcotics. Police found two water bottles in her possession and on checking it was found that she had stored the contraband in the bottles.

“The police then found white powder, later identified as heroin of over 1.935 kg, worth 5.8 crore,” said an official. The drive on Thursday led to the arrest of 74 people and seizure of banned drugs worth 1.61 lac.
