Contractor suicide: Decision on Eshwarappa's resignation after report, says CM

Bengaluru, Apr 14 (IANS): In a relief to Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister K.S. Eshwarappa in connection with the suicide case of a contractor, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said here that a decision would be made on his resignation only after the preliminary report from the police is obtained.

Bommai said, "The call on asking for resignation from Eshwarappa will be taken once I get the preliminary investigation report."

The Congress has launched a state-wide agitation demanding sacking and arrest of Minister Eshwarappa.

Speaking to reporters, Bommai said the post-mortem has been conducted on Wednesday. "The case will be investigated thoroughly and the truth will come out. The party high command has taken all information regarding the issue. However, there will be no further role of the high command over the issue. They will not interfere. I will focus on the course of investigation," he said.

Bommai maintained that he would not answer allegations by the Congress party which are baseless. He challenged the Contractor's Association, which has made serious allegations that the BJP leaders seek 40 per cent commission in all the government contracts.

"During the tenure of Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, there were charges of corruption and scandals. There was a scandal relating to the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and Arkavathy denotification scandal. The Congress had to lose elections because of its misrule," Bommai alleged.

Meanwhile, high drama prevailed in the Badasa village of Belagavi district when the funeral rites of contractor Santhosh K. Patil were being performed on Thursday. Congress MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar and MLC Channaraj Holihatti attended the final rites. The villagers and family members demanded that the BJP leaders should also come to the spot. They delayed the burial of the body, insisting on the arrival of BJP leaders. However, later the body was buried.

Normally as per law if any govt official is charged by FIR that person has to resign to conduct any fair and meaningful investigation. If that person is still on duty then that person can twist the outcome of the investigation report to his favour by misusing his power. This whole episode one big fake drama to fool people. No positive outcome and no justice to Santhosh Patil’s soul family and his family.

Eswarappa know too much about corruption in BJP, that is why they are scared to sack him in case he opens his mouth. People from various organisations have made public accusations about corruption in all government departments including CM’s office. Time to get rid of BJP and a lesson to andeh bakths.

For others -- other than BJP -- first arrest then trial -- many professors etc are in jail -- FR .STAN SWAMY died in incarceration -- only last days some action but too late -- FOR A MINISTER HAVING POLICE FIR -- especially on a suicide -- The victjm who has been repeatedly complaining -- not an isolated spontaneous decision - to commit suicide --- after much agony has most unfortunately died -- now delay tactics-- resignation drama possibly to avoid arrest -- so all will forget after resigning -- IN THE INTEREST OF THE STATE TRUTH HAS TO COME OUT -- AN OVERALL DETERIORATION -- PATHETIC POLITICS -- STATE BORROWINGS GONE UP -- BURDENING ONLY CITIZENS NOT POLITICIANS -- POLITICIANS Travel in convoys -- own wealth in crores -- have their own Institutions -- hospitals -- etc etc --

Which person in power has accepted his sin! How many powerful people have been convicted for their crimes! Are the contractors Mahatmas! Which political party can claim moral high ground on these matters! Congress is saying arrest the minister! Is it not hilarious! And for what ! For the suicide or for the cut demanded? If a Junior Engineer can stash money is his household drain, think about the Chief Engineer!!! Where is he stashing his money. We Common man feels helpless and has resigned to his fait. We are fed and fattened so that we could be sacrificed at the altar of democratic politics, whatever it means. We have no string left in our hand, which could be pulled, once the ballot is casted. This is a crumbling society and system. It has lived its life and needs to be replaced.

The million dollar question is why is Eeshwarappa not arrested? If it was a ordinary person in his place, the police would drag him, his family to the police station and put them behind bars. He would be produced to court whenever the police feels like. Why is this Eeshwarappa not arrested. He should be treated as a normal human. The government and police are giving him enough time to erase all the evidences. This is a total lapse and it is serious. Otherwise the police jumps into action taking suo moto cognizance of the issue. Why not here?
