Mangalore, Feb 7: The district unit of Sri Rama Sene staged a protest in front of deputy commissioner’s office here on Monday February 7 with regard to the recently revealed Makarajyothi issue. The activists opposed the comment by Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president M Rajagopalan Nair that the light sighted at Ponnambalamedu (Makarajyoti) is man-made.
The irked activists expressed their fury by setting ablaze the effigy of Rajagopalan Nair. Addressing the protestors, Madhukar Mudradi, state spokesperson of the Sene alleged that anti-Hindu groups and Christian Missionaries are responsible for TDB’s say.
He demanded that in order to safeguard the sacred Hindu beliefs, the government should take immediate action against TDB and also arrest the president Nair.
The activists threatened to intensify the protest if their demands are not met. Kumar Malemanr, DK district President of the Sene, Madhusoodan Urvastore, Kishor Mahakalipadpu, Ganesh and Nagesh were present.
Following the stampede at Sabarimala which killed around 102 devotees the Kerala High Court had asked TDB whether Makarajyoti is mad-made or a celestial phenomenon. TDB, which administers the temple, had later made it public that it is purely man-made. This revelation prompted the Sene activists to hold a protest.
