India condemns terror attack in Afghanistan: MEA

New Delhi, Apr 22 (IANS): India on Thursday condemned the terror attack at a mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan, and said that it is monitoring the situation there.

India's reaction came after an explosion at a Shiite mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif killed at least 20 people on Thursday.

In reply to a question during the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "We condemn all terrorist attacks such as the one in Afghanistan. We are looking at the developments there."

The explosion took place when people were about to offer praeyrs during the holy month of Ramadan.

The attack came just two days after multiple blasts hit educational facilities in Shiite-majority areas of Kabul, killing at least six people.

The Shia community, which is a religious minority group in Afghanistan, has often been on target of Sunni militant groups, including the ISIS.
