Mumbai, Feb 11 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday sought the Maharastra governor's permission to initiate prosecution of union cabinet ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde in the Adarsh Society scam.
A delegation of senior state level BJP leaders led by party national secretary Kirit Somaiya and former union minister Ram Naik met Governor K. Sankaranarayanan and urged him for sanction to prosecute the two, who are also former state chief ministers, for their alleged involvement in the scam.
Sankaranarayanan assured the delegation that he would examine the papers from the legal perspective before deciding on any action in the matter.
The delegation also demanded that the fine of Rs.10 lakh imposed by the Supreme Court on the government of Maharashtra for obstruction to police action against a Congress legislator, allegedly at the behest of Deshmukh, must be recovered from him only.
Besides Somaiya and Naik, the delegation included Gopal Shetty, Sardar Tara Singh, Atul Shah and Madhav Bhandari.
